Book Club: The Bristol Giants

If you haven't popped into Foyles recently, you probably won't have met Goram and Ghyston the giants, who we snapped posing next to Oliver Rigby (right), the author of the beautiful new children's book, and Tom Bonson (left), the illustrator who brought his vision to life.

The Bristol Giants, which launched at a special event at Foyles bookshop last week, tells the story about the first Bristol giants and how the landscape of the beautiful city of Bristol came to be formed with their help.

We asked Drawn in Bristol member Tom Bonson what he enjoyed most about illustrating the book.

'I guess knowing it was based in Bristol and that the places I'm drawing are actual locations gave it a nice grounding, especially as I live in Bristol and have been to most of them.'

In the book, the brothers meet Princess Avona, a beautiful princess who they both fall in love with immediately.  She sets them a challenging task to decide who will win her hand in marriage.

Want to find out more?  We thought so.

'You can buy a copy of the book from Waterstones in Broadmead, Foyles in Quakers Friars, the Tourist Information Centre by the bridge or online at the Bristol Giants website,' says Tom, who is already busy plotting book ideas of his own and exciting future exhibitions, so watch this space!

The website has been beautifully designed, featuring some of Tom's original illustrations and fun downloadable masks, which you can take a look at here.
