Now Showing: Prints from India

Drawn in Bristol member Sophie Rae Harding is exhibiting her beautiful India inspired mono-prints across Bristol over the next two months.  You can currently find her work at Hamilton House, in the Co-Exist foyer, where she's taken over the space with her colourful artwork until the end of the week.
'Always inspired by new places, cultures and beautiful scenery, I had an itch to go to India.  When I was accepted as Artist in Residence at Chhaap Printmaking Studios in Gujurat, I decided I would explore the country first, before spending a month creating a series of new prints, inspired by the places I had been.'

The colours and textures in Sophie's mono-prints are layers of oil based ink which are applied using a durathene roller.  The sharp edges/shapes are achieved by using stencils of paper which she cuts using a craft knife following the lines of her initial sketch.

Sophie's work will also be appearing at the Tobacco Factory where she'll be hosting a preview of the show on Tuesday 3 June.  There will  be a mixture of original mono-prints and a selection of more affordable giclee prints on offer.
'I work from my studio here in Hamilton House, doing commissions and personal work.  I also facilitate workshops and teach this technique, which is easy to do at home, without the need of printmaking facilities or a press.'  Sophie will be running a series of drop-in workshops, as well as a workshop at Hamilton House's Open Day on Saturday 14 June.

If you'd like to get involved, or you'd like to chat to Sophie about a personal commission, you can get in touch with her here.
