Illustration on the Streets

Drawn in Bristol member Carys-ink has recently been working on a brand refresh for Edwards Estate Agents, an independent Sales and Lettings Agency, based in Bedminster. Edwards were keen to incorporate illustration into their new brand, and approached Carys to lead the project.

As background on the client, Edwards are creative, modern thinkers who wanted to set themselves apart as different from the stereotypical image most estate agents have. Their aim is to become more visible, an integral part of the local community, and to support local ventures. In an area where the Southbank and Totterdown Arts Trails are significant cultural events it seemed that investing and commissioning some original artworks would be a good way forward.

This is where Drawn in Bristol came in! With Carys overseeing the project, a number of DiB members were specially selected for their different styles – Holly Maguire, Michelle Barker, Slumber and Carys would each produce an image to be used on ‘for sale’ boards, across website & marketing material, and also printed up as canvases in the shop. Each illustrator was given the loose brief “On the Move” with the only real limitation being that the Edwards brand green had to be incorporated in some way. They were given free reign to come up with something fresh, and different to the imagery normally associated with estate agents. This is what they came up with…(interestingly all the images ended up using animal analogies!)
Here are the illustrations alongside the Edwards branding, as they will appear on the ‘for sale’ boards. Illustrations by (clockwise from top left): Carys-ink, Holly Maguire, Slumber and Michelle Barker.
It is the intention that these boards will have a life span of around 12 months, at which point another set will be commissioned, with a different set of illustrators and a different theme. There are also plans afoot, once the shop’s new signage is in place, to paint Slumber’s ‘Urban Fox’ image onto the exterior wall of the shop!

The sale boards will hit the streets this week, so look out for them…
